A story that gripped Greek media and social networks this week was the solving of a murder: a 75-year-old woman killed in her home on the island of Salamina on 31 October.

After police investigations, the victims daughter-in-law was arrested and confessed to the crime. Shed broken into her mother-in-laws house to steal money, then murdered her when she feared shed been recognised.

Before the case was cracked, suspicion naturally fell on some foreigner or other. A Greek couldnt possibly do such a thingkill a helpless woman whod done nothing wrong.

Sadly, the son wrote on Facebook, theyve built a Greece that devours its own childrena Greece where Greeks are murdered inside their own homes. The truth must finally be heard! The situation in our homeland has spiralled out of control.
